Steel grades

Metal is available in diverse compositions and grades. It is barely used in pure form. Mostly, metal types consist of an alloy, a mixture of multiple metals. The composition of an alloy provides the specific features of a metal type. Alloying elements can influence the hardness, tensile strength, yield strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.

Steel is one of the most used metal types and can be distinguished in construction steel, machine steel, and tool steel. Steel with a high tensile strength is often used as construction steel. This steel type has a high yield strength and is therefore extremely suitable for the construction of bridges. Steel with high wear resistance contains a high degree of toughness and hardness. As a result, wear-resistant plates do not wear out quickly. Wear-resistant steel is often used in mining, concrete plants, excavators, and asphalt plants. Additionally, multiple other steel types exist with special features, such as diamond plate, weather resistant steel, galvanized plate, perforated steel and heat-resistant steel. Stainless steel is protected against corrosion, which avoids rust formation. Stainless steel is often used in a corrosive environment.

Steel cutting products can be applied in multiple industries. These are divided into four areas:

  • Shipbuilding, ship repair, and offshore industry
  • Special machine building industry
  • General machine building industry
  • Commercial and industrial industry
